This week I will be putting all of the stuff I learned together. I will get completely hooked up to the rope and make sure I have all of the other stuff mastered. I will start by setting up my rope with the anchor. For the anchor I have to wrap the rope around something sturdy at least 4 times, tie a figure eight follow through, and the tie the safeties (see "Anchoring Down"). My next step will be to fasten down my harness. In order to do this I must make sure all of the straps on my harness are tight enough. I must also make sure they are correctly fastened so they support me while I am climbing (see "Fastened Down"). After I am done with the first two steps I will be tying the double fisherman's knot in my prusik cords. The prusik cords will be used to connect me to the rope so it is important I make sure to do this knot correctly. If you want to learn more about this knot see my blog post titled "Learning the Ropes." Along with the double fisherman's knot these prusik cords will be wrapped around the rope three times to be used as a breaking system to catch me if I slip up. These will be attached to my harness using carabineers. The final thing you have to do in order to climb is tie another prusik cord for your foot. You tie the prusik cord around the rope like I said before. After you do that you tie another one around your foot and use a carabineer to attach it. You don't have to do it this way but I did because my original prusik cord was to short to secure my foot in.
